Atemis Fowl
I do not understand why these books are SO popular. What the hell!? I dis-liked this book very much and its probably my least favourite childrens book. :(
Ocean Within
So...at this point of my life I was working at B. Dalton. I had been working there for 6 or 7 months when I took over the childrens department. Not something I wanted to do. The assistant manager was leaving and she was in charge of it. No one else came forward. And I remember thinking "If no one wants to do it, that means no one likes it because its hard.." so I offered to do it because I wanted a challenge. And sure enough, I took care of our childrens department for the next 5 years. I read a lot of childrens books. :) I still read kids books, but not nearly as much as I did when I worked at B. Dalton.
This one was really sad. I have a niece who reminded me of the girl in the book. Only the girl is not adopted as the child is in the book. My niece is just really lonely and lives out in NC so I wanted to try and connect with her or something. I have to start over every single time i see her but she warms up to me in the end. The best time we had was making smores without a fire and telling ghost stories. :) Then we started to make up ghost stories. Good times. Also-kids have a bizarre imagination.
Faith of the Fallen
This is the 2nd to last book I've read of the Sword of Truth series and I really loved it. The statue on the front actually looks a lot more like how I first imagined the main character to look..so he's evolved from the previous book illustrations (thank god!) I hate fantasy book art. This one is ok, though. :)
Oh, writing about these books makes me want to re-read them again. This book mirrored our world a lot more than the others did. I remember thinking that. It was good!
Born to be Wild
Corelli's Mandolin
The best book I have read by this point. Even now, I inhale ever so softly as I think about the world inside this book. The beautiful Greek spoken in this book. The beautiful names. Psipsina, Pelagia, Lemoni, and of course-Mandras. Oh Mandras.
I love the fact that Captain Corelli was obsessed with his mandolin and with singing operas. I love the way Pelagia embroidered an extraordinary crooked jacket for Mandras while he was away at war. This book is amazing. Full of history and rich in culture...my two favourite themes in books.
My favourite thing about this book is meeting someone else who has read and loved it...and the bond that is shared through that knowledge.
Last Time They Met
Wicked
One of the most dissapointing books Ive ever read. I really love the Wizard of Oz. A lot. A lot a lot a lot. And I thought that this one was going to have that same magical charm. Instead, it was very political and about animal rights. Which is fine..a great topic...but just not what I was expecting. There was no magical charm. No enchanting tale. It was more of a realistic look into the life of Elphaba and why she became the wicked witch. She actually was pretty cool..but like I said, not what I expected.
Soul of the Fire
The Beach
Hmm. First of all, I love Leo DiCaprio. I love his acting, I love what he turns his characters into. So imagining him throughout a whole book was pretty amazing. I love the way he talks..the intensity in his eyes. His mouth and the way he uses it to convey anger..and fear. I think he is brilliant and I was happy for the oppertunity to imagine this character as him. :) It was a great book. It was very original. I like that.
Plantation: A Low Country Tale
Bridget Jones's Diary
Confessions of a Shopaholic
Probably one of the books I am most ashamed of reading. It was so meaningless. A "receipt" after another. A book about shopping. I read it because there was this craze around this book..and I like book crazes. I love to know what mass population reads...so yeah, i was curious-and then I was sorry. Oh-so sorry.
False Memory
Summerhouse
Perfume: Story of a Murderer
We're into the year 2001 here folks. Most of the books I read are from 2001-2004. In 2005 and 2006 Ive read less than 10. And I forced myself to read a lot more last year...but yeah, we're still early in the game. :)
Perfume was recommended to me years ago..around 1998 by a friend of mine who love love loved it. And I read it and felt gross about reading it once I knew what it was about. The ending of this book, though, was worth it. I was floored. I think its the best ending I have ever come across ever.
Shopgirl
I think this book is about me-the part of me no one understands. True story. I read it and fell in love with Steve Martin..and how he got me. I know millions of people find themsevles in books like this...i am just pleased that Steve Martin found me. And this book is a beautiful one. About art, and Los Angeles, and sadness-about me. People say I am the happiest person they know. The truth is that I may be the saddest. What keeps me from depression? Dunno. My outlook on life, I guess. My sadness, though extreme-doesnt keep me down..except for at night when all of lifes troubles came out to haunt me...
Timeline
Ah this book. My first major imaginery motion picture cast ever. Everyone in this book was imagined as a celebrity. And no one i cast in my head was actually cast in the movie years later..but thats ok. Oded Fher wouldnt have played as good a part as Gerard Butler...And Paul Walker did a pretty good job too. :)
Blood of the Fold
Midnight Bride
Winter Prey
My Dream Of You
Stone Of Tears
This is Book 2 of the Sword of Truth series. You know, the guy on the cover isn't anything like the guy I picture as Richard. I actually picture the little boy who was in The Neverending Story-Atreyu-only older. They share the same characteristics. Theyre going to make this into a television series...could be good.
Myst: The Book Of D'ni
A Walk to Remember
Phantom of the Opera
Parts of this book really terrified me. I never thought it was a romantic story at all. I don't know how Andrew LLoyd Weber did it. But it was def on the grotesque side. I read this though before I knew all the words to the musical and before I had seen any of the movies. I have yet to see the play on stage.
Wizards First Rule
I really like the main characters in this book. Richard, the seeker of truth-how noble! And the heroine was pretty freaking awesome. I really really loved this entire series, but it is probably the only fantasy series (aside from Lord of the Rings) that I can ever be into. I've tried others and its not the genre i like...but the characters. Richard was..good. He was also in love with the heroine. Cmon! Thats awesome.
Amanda's Wedding
Isabel's Bed
First book in a long line of chick lit that I've read. I stopped reading them because every book is the same and they weren't that enjoyable. I still love Meg Cabot and Marian Keyes but all of the other chick lit books...not so much. I am not looking forward to posting them. Like I said, it took me a LONG time to find my niche. I found it finally about 3 years ago.
